Happy Friday!!

October 1st  begins the four day sales tax holiday on energy-efficient products, including light bulbs. Please bring in an old incandescent light bulb so we can plan to do a craft project.

Book Fair is next week! Children wishing to purchase a book may go to the book fair during the morning. It has been a long tradition at Ford that teachers create a "Wish List" for the students to purchase books for our class. This year we plan on donating all purchased books to a 5th grade teacher at Clarkdale Elementary. We will package these books together and include a note from our class.

Class Pet? Okay, so we have aquired a 10 gallon aquarium for a class pet.  However, we do not have a pet at this time. Can I have a few volunteers to help us with this?

Friday Fun :)

What We Are Learning:

Reading: nonfiction text features/predicting/questioning/clarifying comprehension  

Language Arts: Six Traits of Writing: Ideas/Organization/Voice 

Grammar: fragments/run-ons/simple sentences/compound sentences/compound-complex sentences

Science: Keep working on those acceleration activities; they are due on the 25th! Students are encouraged to complete more than one acceleration option if they are interested!!! The sky is the limit. A study guide will be provided next week for the test that will be on the 28th.

Reflection Project: Make sure you are working on these projects. Each student is required to turn a reflection project in on Sept. 29th.

Check the binder for a letter from PTA regarding a cookbook of favorite recipes! Yum...yum!!

School pictures were sent home today.

Keep sending in those 5th grade yearbook dedications! Information about this can be found on the PTA website.

Science Learning Contract: The due date has been changed for the Science Learning Contract. The new due date is September 25. I am changing the date due to the IOWA test next week. The ONLY activities that your child will be working on at home are #1 and #5 in the "Nonnegotiable" box. All of the other activities will be done in class :). As for the acceleration options...these were left vague for a reason. I want the kids to be creative and think outside of the box! For example, many kids are doing the volcano model (sorry parents!). Together we have brainstormed different ways they can do this: with legos, clay, food, etc. Some are interested in researching ways to "explode" their volcano at school...this if fine too!!! The acceration options are geared to meet the different learning styles that we have in our class. Send me an e-mail over the weekend if you have a specific question. I don't want this to create stress for you or your child!!!! 

Wuzzles: Ask your child about this exciting abstract thinking activity! They LOVED it. Each week I will link a Wuzzle or another thinking activity to the blog. You can email answers or send in a hardcopy. This isn't mandatory it is JUST FOR FUN :) Feel free to prompt your child as needed. Some kids will need more help than others. Hopefully, they will need less assistance as the year progresses. Enjoy!!
