Well, we have survived 4 days of CRCT testing and we only have 1 more to go! Thank you for the snack donations that we have enjoyed this week. You guys ROCK!! The students have been working very hard each day and I am certain that they are doing their best. Have a relaxing weekend and enjoy this great weather.
Reminders for all:
Poetry Books are due Tuesday, May 5th. We have spent a lot of class time this week working on the poetry book. Hopefully, most of the assignment is complete! Please refer to the orange rubric in the homework section of the binder prior to turning it in. We will have a poetry reading day in May!
Progress Reports will be sent home in the red folder on Monday. Sign and return, please.
Don’t miss out on the 5th grade 2008-2009 DVD and opportunity to help others through the legacy project. Send in $8.00 (for DVD and project, or more if you would like) marked "5th grade DVD" and a note with students name and teacher. You may also get a form from the front desk. Put these in the PTSA box that is just inside the front office door. The deadline to order is MARCH 31st!!!!

March 3; Early Release Day March 4; Writing Assessment (8:30-10:30) March 4; Science Lab March 5; WWI Social Studies Test. Study the WWI graphic organizer that is in the social studies section of the binder and the social studies book page 304-319 too! March 5; Figurative Language Performance Assessment. Study the figurative language graphic organizer. They need to be able to give an example of each type of figurative language All Food Drive donations are due on March 6. A paper bag was sent home Friday afternoon with directions stapled to it.
We have concluded our science unit: Classification and Inherited Traits! In class today we organized all of the materials that need to be studied for the test. The study materials include the graphic organizers that we did in class along with the following pages in the science workbook: Pages 120-127, pages 128-135, pages 150-157.
Welcome back!
We have finally settled into our "school mode" and are focusing on 3rd nine-week curriculum. Here are the focus areas for the next grading period: Narrative Writing, Adjectives, Poetry, Figurative Language, Fiction Reading, Classification, Traits, Electricity/Magnetism, Changes in America After The 1800's. We are also thrilled about our new Science Lab! Our class took a tour of it today and learned about the Scientific Method!
Mrs. Johnson and I would like to thank each of you for the Christmas gifts we received. It was so thoughtful of each of you to think of us during the holiday season. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful parents who support us! Thank you for your generosity.
A few reminders and notes about the red parent folder coming home today instead of Monday:
Research Project was sent home today! Please review all of the information in the brown paper bag with your child. This is a project that will be completed at home and is due on February 13. I encourage you to monitor your child's progress in meeting the suggested weekly checkpoints/deadlines. Please DO NOT return the final project until the due date, February 13. I will be checking the progress of their project by looking at your initials on your child's checksheet each Friday. Please email me as clarification is needed! I will add details to the blog each week regarding the pockets assigned for that week. I look forward to seeing your child's creativity shine!!
